About Antalya

History of Antalya

Our clinic is located in Antalya, Turkey’s most popular holiday destination. Welcoming approximately 15 million visitors a year, Antalya is Turkey’s 5th largest city with a population of 2.5 million.

In the archaeological excavations, it has been determined that people lived in Antalya and its surroundings 40 thousand years ago. Since 2000 BC, the region has been under the rule of city-states such as Hittite, Pamphylia, Lycia, Cilicia, and Persia, Alexander the Great, and the Kingdom of Antigonos, Ptolemais, Seleucid and Pergamon, which is considered its successor. The city of Antalya was named after the King of Pergamon II. It was taken by Attalos (160 BC – 138 BC). Antalya (Attaleia) means “Home of Attalos”.

After the end of the Pergamon Kingdom, the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the Seljuks and the Ottoman Empire ruled the city respectively, leaving important traces in the cultural heritage of the city.
